Ligue 1 giant and defending champion Paris Saint-Germain was home to OGC Nice at the Parc des Princes for the round 9 of the competition. The match took place on Saturday, October 1 2022.
PSG largely controlled the game with a superb Messi free-kick separating the sides at half-time, Nice tried to get back into the game in the second half but they couldn’t just resist the pressure, with the match ending in a narrow 2-1 victory for PSG.
The first half was pretty drab with a few half-chances from both teams. Messi was forced to pick up possession, with a lack of forward thrust stunting the PSG attack, but his presence in the penalty area was missed as a result.
The first breakthrough of the game came in the 29th minute after Messi was fouled close to the penalty box and Dante was shown a yellow card for conceding the free-kick. Messi and Neymar both stood over the free-kick but the latter ran over it to create a diversion before Messi stepped up and curled his left-footed set-piece into the top corner.
PSG controlled the game from then on till half-time with a good number of chances.
Nice equalized just two minutes into the second half with Laborde scoring the equalizer after Atal sent a cross into the penalty area that skipped past the Les Parisiens defense.
Nice seemed to pick up some pace from there but couldn’t attack effectively with PSG keeping The Eaglets in their own half.
Mbappe’s goal made the difference in the 83rd minute after a Schmeichel mistake that put Nice under pressure. Mukiele intercepted a loose ball and cut it back for Mbappe, whose first-time finish beat the goalkeeper.
The win saw PSG remain unbeaten with eight wins and one draw in nine games and a +23 goal difference. Meanwhile, Nice drifts to 13th position with a goal difference of -5.
